After my trip to the National Museum I was looking into some of the items in the museum that were found in my native Co. Kerry. One of the pieces I saw in Dublin was an amazing silver gilt cross from Lislaughtin Abbey, Ballylongford.

Before Christmas I bought a second hand set of stakes that were advertised in the Benchpeg newsletter.
The great thing about getting second hand tools is the price, the only downside is that sometimes they require a little work to get them cleaned up and ready to use.
Before Christmas I had planned to go to Dublin to the RDS Crafts Show but the snow kept me in Cork. One of the other reasons I had wanted a trip to Dublin was to see the National Museum on Kildare Street.

I know it’s Christmas week so I should have probably started this project a little earlier but it was only when I was bombarded by shows on how to make Christmas cakes and desserts did I think about making the perfect Christmas utensil.

When the ring has cooled down it is put in a diluted acid solution. This cleans the silver and removes any traces of flux.
