It has been raining all day here so I didn’t think I’d be happy to see yet another cloud but these images really brought a smile to my face.
This installation is made up of a big fluffy cloud hovering over the gallery. I was fascinated to know how the artist Berndnaut Smilde achieves this cartoon like effect. From what I have read it is created using smoke, moisture and back lighting. Refining these techniques the artist was able to create this eerie illusion of a cloud floating indoors. While I call this an installation it is not a permanent piece and only last moments until the cloud breaks up and disappears. The viewer may only experience this cloud for a moment before it dissipates entirely.
